Why CBD?
Why CBD?
CBD and cannabinoids have been gaining a lot of popularity in recent years and with this rush of interest and excitement comes a lot of hype. This recent interest in all things cannabis is a welcomed rediscovery of a plant that humans have been wild harvesting and cultivating for its medicinal properties for thousands of years. There is even talk of humans and Cannabis evolving together in symbiotic relationship. Lets look at what we know about the plant, cannabinoids, and their effects in the body.
The History:
Cannabis has been cultivated by humans for at least 12,000 years.
Early written records go back to 2400BC in China. Also widely used in Egypt, India, Greece and the Roman Empire.
The rise of allopathic medicine in the late 19th century and shifts of prohibition and the war on drugs in the 20th century led to demonization and governmental prohibitions on research, cultivation and use of this important plant.
When the government finally conducted research on Cannabis in the 1990’s the findings were opposite of what they were intending to show. Cannabis was shown to have many benefits to the body which led to the discovery of the endocannabinoid system.
Cannabinoids and the body:
CBD and other cannabinoids found in cannabis activate cannabinoid receptors that are spread all over your body!
These cannabinoid receptors are the core of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the body. They are widely distributed throughout the body whereas many of our other receptors are only found in the brain. This gives CBD the ability to have great impact when topically applied anywhere on the body.
CBD acts as a “reuptake inhibitor” helping us experience the natural benefits the endocannabinoids made in our body for a longer amount of time.
The ECS is a system of cell surface receptors and endocannabinoids (lipid based neurotransmitters) that regulate the interaction of many activities in the body, from inflammation to metabolism, stress responses to pain management, sleep to thermoregulation. The ECS can be thought of as a master regulator of all these different systems and is a key player in HOMEOSTASIS, the ability to integrate and stabilize interactive systems in the body.
It turns out CBD is doing a lot for us by turning off the inflammation response in the body and turning on a lot of body balancing systems that we naturally have in place.
Our Products are Full Spectrum:
Our products use ethanol extracted full spectrum hemp distillate. This ensures that the full synergistic (working together) effects of the cannabinoids and the terpenes (essential oils) maximize the benefits of our products.
Full spectrum does include trace amounts of THC (below 0.3%). While it might be possible (but not easy) to take a large quantity orally to build up enough THC to fail drug tests there is basically no chance of this happening with topical products.
Our products are tested and confirmed to have the stated concentrations of CBD from locally sourced hemp grown in the South East.
